The LEGACY Circa 1920 Antique Residental Electric Meter
$325.00
The LEGACY Circa 1920 Antique Residental Electric Meter
Item# N058
LEGACY Circa 1920 Antique Residential Electric Meter
Price: $325.00

The meters were manufactured in Newark NJ in the 1920’s. Some components such as cords, sockets & switches come from Mexico, but that’s just by default, as there are no longer any domestic sources for these items. What a beauty this LEGACY restored circa 1920 residential electric meter is - and what a remarkable gift it would make for a valued electrical company employee celebrating his exceptional years of service! While our other models have a working meter, this does not -- it is not a functioning meter.  There is no plug so it is a good space saving choice that is a little more economical than the working meter lamps we offer on our site.  This model retains its museum-piece quality as a class electrical instrument and a true surviving representative of the electric industry's early, formative years.

The Westinghouse Electric Company type OB watt-hour residential electric meter was widely installed by electrical companies in the early 1900's to record residential electrical use.  In all likelihood a start-up utility used this same meter to calculate the first electric bill tendered to a pioneering energy consumer at the very dawn of the electrical age!

In restoring each electrical meter, the skilled craftsmen here in the states, removed nearly 80 years' accumulation of corrosion and grime to reveal the long-concealed, natural metallic luster of solid yellow machined brass, heavy red cast brass and bright nickle plate.  Brass meter components are brilliantly polished and then immediately sealed in clear metal lacquer to preserve the hard-won finish!

Additional features:
  • Optical-polishing of electric meter cover glass removes decades of accumulated scratches, haze, and embedded mineral stains, providing exceptional clarity for viewing the internal meter recording mechanism.
  • Included are three copper-wire, pressed lead wing nut security seals, just like the power     company originally installed to thwart tampering. Pressed-lead seals are coated in clear metal lacquer to prevent oxidation
  •  Precision-cut, hand-finished, solid walnut woodwork.
  •  Wedge-mounted interior brass plate is informatively engraved
  • "Residential Electric Meter, Circa 1920".
  •  Shown here with a second, optional brass plate affixed to the front of the lamp base........
  •  The meter manufacturer's original data plate, displaying an individually stamped meter serial number, is clearly visible through the front meter glass.
Each display unit is individually signed beneath the base by the assembling skilled craftsman
  • No two meters are exactly alike.
  • Proudly restored and assembled in the U.S.A.
